Koh Samui's Weather and Climate

Visitors are sometimes incorrectly informed about Koh Samui's weather seasons. Not everyone is aware for example, that the island doesn't have the same rainy season as Phuket. This is because Koh Samui is in the Gulf of Thailand and faces east, so the weather patterns differ significantly.

January - February is the cool season on Samui with temperatures averaging a pleasant 79°F / 26°C. There's also minimal rainfall during these months.

March - April is the hot season, when the temperature really starts warming up; it has been known to regularly reach 40°C and there’s generally alot less rain during these months.

May - September generally speaking most days will be sunny, with the exception of an occasional shower; which usually doesn't last very long. August is also traditionally very fine and dry.

October - December showers become a little more frequent during these months. But around mid-December the weather generally clears up with extended periods of dry, and often sunny, weather. Water sports enthusiasts should note that the sea can get rough at this time, and visibility can be affected.
